Portable Engine Hoist. Since both our race cars have fixed fronts, engine removal at the track could be very problematic without an engine hoist. Packing around a normal shop hoist is not ideal however, and with space in the trailer at a premium it was time to engineer a portable option for the track.
Andy put on his designer cap and came up with an excellent solution to the problem. Using regular square tubing and the existing hydraulic mechanism from our shop hoist, he designed a portable version that folds flat and mates to the receiver hitch on the truck. The "foot" is adjustable and prevents any unwanted movement (although with a dually truck this is not a concern!) and offers added safety/stability. Since the foot is removable, if necessary the truck could simply drive away with the engine once it is out of the car. Not having to worry about the type of ground is a bonus (wheels on a regular hoist need pavement), since Big Red can back right up to the operating table over any terrain.
Simple and strong, this just needs a coat of paint and it will be done!
