Christmas always seems to be a great time to evaluate the needed tasks/upgrades to the cars, and get started on all the projects. With the assistance of a set of digital scales, we weighed both cars. We have never really done much in the way of suspension setup, and fine tuning that will pay dividends on the track.
Now that VARAC has allowed roller rockers and rod ends on the suspension, we are able to race under the VARAC or SVRA rules, so we can reduce the empty car weight as well. In the case of #68, the scales don't lie - she was a porky 1450 lbs!
So we spent some time taking out "stuff", such as the door cards, carpets, rear seat, boot liner, and license plate holder and light assembly, etc. We will also switch out the hydro suspension, and add flares so we can run the CMW 6" rims (which are considerably lighter than the Minilites). That will also keep both cars the same, harmonization is good!
Another upgrade was to fit Makrolon windows to both cars. This stuff is pretty cool, and very scratch resistant. We used 1/4" for the windscreens, and 3/16" for the side and rear windows, saving over 15lbs on #68. Both cars will get right hand slider windows too.
#921 will be getting aluminum door skins, we anticipate a 7 lbs minimum savings for each.
And, the spare engine will finally be properly built. Stay tuned for updates on that.
